Year 5 Science Term 3

Lesson 1
WALH scientists think and work
Need: website__http://msed.iit.edu/projectican/documents/Foot%20prints.pdf__& projector
mystery boxes
Lesson 2
WALT be an active participant in the learning process and that science is dynamic, it is hands-on, and it changes as our knowledge of the world increases.
Need: tangram pieces, enough for students to work in pairs, teabag, matches, foil
Lesson 3
WALHT describe science as self-correcting nature of science, the tentative nature of scientific knowledge and science as an on-going endeavour
Lesson 4
WALT recognize what knowledge we bring with us
Need: different coloured shapes in a cardboard folder that holes punched in it
Lesson 5
WALHT reflect on our learning and plan our next learning steps

Speed/tere describes how fast something is going. That is the distance it travels over a period of time ie 3m/sec, 50km/hr
Acceleration/whakatere ake describes speeding up, an increase of speed over time
Deceleration/whakapoturi ake describes slowing down, a decrease of speed over time
Gravity a pull towards the ground

Friction is a force of resistance to the motion of an object
External friction can be static: a gripping frictional force that keeps an object in place when it’s stationary.
Dynamic or sliding friction is when the interface between 2 surfaces that are sliding or rolling against or over each other contains irregularities or indentations.
